Turkey will receive thirty percent of all official earnings from the waters off the 3,300 kilometers of coastline in Somalia for a decade.
As per the agreement passed by Parliament and the Cabinet this week, the NATO member state will assist Mogadishu in rebuilding its navy and protecting the waters from terrorism, pirates, and “foreign interference” in exchange.

The agreement was reached weeks after Ethiopia furiously declared its intention to lease a 20-kilometer section of the same coastline from Somaliland, a breakaway entity. The president of Somalia has referred to this as an attempt to “change the borders of Somalia.”
